We offer guided hunting for fallow and red deer, pigs and goats on the property.
Suitable for all, both seasoned hunters and beginners.
All gear provided or bring your own.
Well-equipped meat-safe (fly proof, stainless steel bench, running water, lighting, hanging facilities) for storage and butchery.
Accommodation in hunting hut or camping.

Please note that we are currently not offering clay bird and target shooting. This is due to regulatory requirements in the new firearms legislation. We will provide updates as appropriate.
Facilities and equipment are available on the property for clay bird shooting, axe throwing and target shooting.
We offer training for novices and all activities are carried out under supervision, making for a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
Clay birds and axe throwing are great as a group activity.
We can arrange team competitions, which provide a great deal of fun and camaraderie and are very popular.
The 620 acres of forested hill country provide a tranquil and rejuvenating environment for walking. The land is accessible by numerous tracks and caters for those wanting short gentle strolls around the lodge and also for those seeking something more physically demanding.
For the more adventurous, try our orienteering course (intermediate level, 3-5 hours)
There are a significant number of walks to suit all fitness levels in the vicinity, from the famous Tongariro Crossing to shorter walks around the base of Mt Ruapehu and beautiful walks along the Whakapapa River at Owhango.

There are a multitude of cycle tracks and trails in the vicinity. These include the 42nd Traverse at nearby Owhango, Fishers Track at National Park, the Timber Trail at Pureora Forest Park, the Ohakune Old Coach Road and the Mountains to the Sea between Mt Ruapehu and Wanganui. A few kilometeres of access tracks on the property (some steep and challenging) can be used for mountain biking.

Whakapapa skifield is a 30 minute drive from the lodge. Ohakune is a 45 minute drive. The great logfire and large drying room make the Wildside Getaway Lodge an ideal accommodation base for snowsports.
