Wildside Getaway is about adventure and relaxation. A wide range of activities is available on the property itself and also in the vicinity...
We offer guided hunting for fallow and red deer, pigs and goats on the property. We can also provide guided hunting in the nearby Tongariro National Park. We have three knowledgeable guides with more than 50 years of hunting experience between them. Suitable for seasoned hunters and beginners alike. All gear provided or bring your own. Accomodation in upmarket lodge or hunting hut.
"The hunting was great and the hosts were so kind and patient with my kids, and gave them an excellent introduction to hunting, in a very safe supervised environment. Highly recommended. We are going back again soon." Jane O'Dwyer, May 2014

Facilities and equipment are available on the property for clay bird and target shooting as well as archery. We offer training for novices and all activities are carried out under supervision, making for a safe and enjoyable environment for all. Clay birds are great as a group activity.
The 140 hectares of forested hill country provide a tranquil and re-juvenating environment for walking. The land is accessible by numerous tracks and caters for those wanting short gentle strolls around the lodge and also for those seeking something more physically demanding. There are a significant number of walks to suit all fitness levels in the vicinity, from the famous Tongariro Crossing to shorter walks around the base of Mt Ruapehu and beautiful walks along the Whakapapa River at Owhango.
There are a multitude of cycle tracks and trails in the vicinity. These include the 42nd Traverse at nearby Owhango, Fishers Track at National Park, the Timber Trail at Pureora Forest Park, the Ohakune Old Coach Road and the Mountains to the Sea between Mt Ruapehu and Wanganui. A few kilometeres of access tracks on the property (some steep and challenging) can be used for mountain biking.
Contact Paul Goulding (022 023 7958) at Epic Cycle Adventures for shuttle and bike hire options for the highly rated Timber Trail in Pureora Forest Park:
Whakapapa skifield is a 30 minute drive from the lodge. Ohakune is a 45 minute drive. The great logfire and large drying room make the Lodge an ideal base for snowsports.
Canoeing the Whanganui River can be undertaken from Taumarunui (25 minutes drive) or Whakahoro (60 mintes drive).
The area is well-known for fly-fishing with the nearby Whakapapa River providing some excellent spots. We can provide fly-fishing with highly rated fishing guides on request.
